Your spine is made up of three parts, the neck (cervical), the mid-back (thoracic) and the low back (lumbar). The top area of your neck is called the upper cervical spine.
Upper Cervical Chiropractic is a precise technique that focuses on finding the misalignment at the top of the neck, and using a gentle, non-force adjustment to move the entire body back into optimal alignment.
The curves of the spine provide tension patterns that keep the body upright in a gravitational environment. For instance, the direction of the curve of your neck and low back provides the tension appropriate to keep us from falling forward and the curvature of the mid back keeps us from falling back. These tension pathways can break down due to injury and/or decreased neurologic response from the brain and nervous system. When these tension pathways break down the result is a break down in posture, function, and often pain.
The vitalistic approach to upper cervical chiropractic means we look at the body as a whole. For example, when you come in with back pain, the approach to correction is to look at the position of the pelvis, weight distribution, posture, nervous system response, head and neck position, and rotation in the body. We measure 3D posture of the entire body, relating it to gravity, and digital data to determine a corrective adjustment. The goal is to restore 3D balance (orthogonal), tensegral balance (healthy posture), nervous system function, joint symmetry, muscle balance, proper blood and oxygen flow, and coordination of communication to the entire body.
We live in a world dominated by the force of gravity. We get up every morning and fight against the force of gravity all day. Eventually we feel fatigued and tired and have to lie down to recover from being upright all day. Gravity pervades our bodies it is present everywhere around us and affects all of our activities. We feel its affects after a long day of being on our feet and we complain of achy joints and muscles. Our bodies are designed perfectly to function in a gravitational environment however, this design has its limitations. Optimal performance and function happens when the structure of the body is in alignment along its vertical axis, also known as body balance.
Dr. Bean is trained in both NUCCA and QSM3. Upper Cervical Chiropractic is unique to chiropractic practice in that it works with the body’s central balancing mechanisms that maintain a person’s ability to function in a gravity environment. QSM3 is a progression of the NUCCA chiropractic technique that measures the exact upper cervical misalignment, and also takes into account the dynamics of how a patient’s posture and balance change as they heal.
"I recently had two automobile accidents and had severe whiplash and was in severe pain. Dr. Bean stepped in and my pain reduced from a 12 on a scale of 1-10, to a 1 to 2. Dr. Bean is very intuitive and has a way of magically sensing what you need. I have been to many, many chiropractors and I can honestly say that Michelle is the first and only one that has actually helped the problems and pain and does so with a kind and compassionate heart."
